Over 400 Sulu fighters now in Sabah—Kiram spokesman
MANILA, Philippines—More than 400 “volunteer fighters” of the Sultanate of Sulu have arrived in Lahad Datu, Sabah, to reinforce the sultanate’s beleaguered “Royal Security Forces” there, the sultanate’s spokesman claimed Tuesday.
Abraham Idjirani told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone that the men, who were all armed, arrived in the eastern coast of Sabah in two groups between March 30 and April 5.
“They went there because of the continued human rights violations of the Malaysian [security forces] on the Filipinos there,” Idjirani said.
He added that fighting between the RSF and the Malaysian security forces erupted on the nights of April 6 and 7 in Tanjung Batu, a village in Lahad Datu. He claimed that the Malaysians suffered “heavy casualties.”
Idjirani said his information came from Agbimuddin Kiram, younger brother of Sultan Jamalul Kiram III. Agbimuddin heads the RSF and is the object of a manhunt by the Malaysian security forces.

1,000 more gunmen for Sulu rebels in Sabah, says MNLF
KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — An extra 1,000 gunmen from the southern Philippines have broken through the sea blockade into Sabah to add muscle to Sulu rebel leader Agbimuddin Kiram’s fight against Malaysian security forces, The Philippine Star reported today.
A representative from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Emmanuel Fontanilla, told the daily the fighters had been readying for battle since the onset of the conflict and managed to slip past the Philippine and Malaysian navies by moving in small groups.
“As per information, the armed men arrived in small batches,” he was quoted as saying.
The paper said it was unknown if the latest group had joined in fresh clashes in Lahad Datu last week, when an earlier band of 100 Filipinos landed on Sabah’s east coast to reinforce the so-called Sulu sultanate in its renewed bid to reclaim the state.
