Navy intercepts Kiram men fleeing Sabah

BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi, Philippines—A Philippine Navy patrol boat intercepted two boats bearing more than 30 members of the so-called “royal army” of Sultan Jamalul Kiram III of Sulu, some of whom were armed and wounded, as they entered Philippine waters from Sabah Wednesday morning, Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Rey Ardo said.
He said the two boats carrying 32 Sulu gunmen, who were fleeing a hunt for them by Malaysian security forces in Sabah, were drifting at sea some seven nautical miles (12.96 kilometers) from Sabah when they were spotted by officers and men of Navy Patrol Ship 38 early Wednesday morning.
But in a report earlier by INQUIRER.net, Lieutenant Commander Gregory Fabic, a Navy spokesman, said 35 people were intercepted by patrol boats BRP Mariano Alvarez and Jose Andrada. The Navy boats intercepted the gunmen at about 6:30 a.m., west of Andulingan, he said.
“Our Navy was able to intercept them and there were four firearms, including a shotgun and M16 rifles, recovered from them,” Ardo told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
He said one of the boats had 18 passengers, including an unidentified woman, and some of them were wounded. The other boat had 14 passengers.
Ardo said the arrival of armed followers of Kiram in Philippine waters indicated they were in panic as Malaysian state forces intensified the hunt for them in Sabah.
“They are obviously afraid (of Malaysian state forces) and they returned (to the Philippines) to evade arrest there,” Ardo said.
He said most of the intercepted Kiram followers were to be turned over to the police but those injured will be handed over to social welfare officials when they arrive here some time  “before midnight” Wednesday.

Semoga akan berkurangan warga Filipina di Sabah.

400 Filipino evacuees from Sabah stranded on Turtle Islands–PH Navy exec

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines–More than 400 individuals from Sabah have been stranded on Taganak Island (Turtle Islands) in Tawi-Tawi province since Saturday night, waiting to be rescued by the government, a Philippine Navy official said on Sunday.
Philippine Navy Capt. Rene Yongque, commander of Naval Task Force 62, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that some 400 individuals reached the Philippine waters at past 7 p.m.
“They were guided by our Navy personnel, who were then on patrol towards Taganak Island, so that local government officials in that area can attend to them,” Yongque said.
Yongque said the naval vessel spotted the wooden boat braving the high waves.  “Masyadong malalaki yung mga alon (The waves were too big),” he said.
“[They had very rough sailing] last night and they reached Taganak a bit late. But they are all safe,” he said.
He said the evacuees, mostly women and children, were on board the ML Fatima Editha III, a wooden-hulled boat.
Yongque said the Navy has sent a vessel to fetch the stranded evacuees.
From Taganak Island, the evacuees still have to travel some 540 kilometers of rough seas to reach Bongao town, capital of Tawi-Tawi. Taganak Island is some 40 kilometers away from Sabah.
Yongque said the evacuees on Taganak Island were being attended to by Mayor Nickerson Tan of nearby Mapun Island and Tawi-Tawi Vice Gov. Ruby Sahali-Tan.
But an officer of the Provincial Social Welfare Office in Tawi-Tawi told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that there were 512 individuals stranded in Taganak.

DAH SAHIH PENDATANG HARAM, TAK KAN NAK LAYAN MACAM ANAK RAJA PLAK , LEPAS NI HIDUPLAH  SEPERTI DALAM REBAN AYAM :  INILAH SIFAT MANUSIA YANG TAK TAHU MENGENANG UNTUNG.

ZAMBOANGA CITY—“They dragged all the men outside the houses, kicked and hit them,” 32-year-old Amira Taradji said on Friday as she recounted her family’s ordeal in Sandakan, which started when Malaysian security forces launched a crackdown on suspected supporters of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III in Sabah.
Taradji said Malaysian policemen ordered Filipino men to run as fast as they could and shot them.
Among those killed on Monday night during the police sweep of a Filipino community in Sandakan was her brother, Jumadil, she said.
Taradji, who was originally from Calinan in Davao City, was among some 400 Filipinos who fled Lahad Datu, Semporna, Tawau and Kunak in Sabah for Sulu as the violence sparked by the intrusion of the followers of Jamalul into the eastern Malaysian state spread at the start of the week.
In other Philippine areas near Sabah, hundreds more have arrived since the police crackdown started and many more Filipinos are expected to return home anytime soon, according to government officials.
Speaking to the INQUIRER by phone through the help of a Sulu local official shortly after arriving in Patikul town by a commercial vessel from Sabah late Friday, Taradji said the police sweeps had become dreadful for both Filipinos and Sabahans known as Orang Suluk (people who originated from Sulu).
Taradji reported the arrest of Filipino men in Tawau and Kunak.
